Health and safety law dictates that all employers have a duty to provide appropriate first aid facilities for anyone working at or visiting the workplace. This legislation includes schools, colleges and other educational institutions where employers are responsible not only for staff, but also for students.
The minimum first aid provision for all working environments includes:
• An adequately stocked first aid kit
• An ‘appointed person’ who takes a lead in managing first aid arrangements
• Suitable information on first aid arrangements for all employees
But administering emergency first aid to children and young people requires a specific set of skills and equipment. Regardless of how many risk assessments and precautions your school has in place, there is always the potential for accidents to happen.
If a child suffered from a head injury, asthma attack, eye injury or a sudden serious illness, would you know what to do?
Here at Jigsaw Medical Services we offer a wide range of first aid training courses, including an OFSTED approved paediatric first aid course. We understand the specific requirements of an educational environment and have created a bespoke training course to address the most common emergency situations faced by teachers and support staff.
We also supply defibrillators and AEDs to schools, along with relevant training on how to use them in an emergency. We can provide training in your location across the UK, or in our own training centres.
