A new celebrity-endorsed campaign, named The Chokeables by St. John Ambulance aims to raise awareness of how to save a child from choking.

Choking Hazard Sign

According to research by St. John Ambulance it is something that affects one third of all parents, however the research also concluded that 73 percent of parents were not entirely sure what to when a baby starts choking.

The video (below), posted by the St. John Ambulance, includes voiceovers by stars such as David Walliams, David Mitchell, Johnny Vegas and Sir John Hurt, demonstrates the simple steps to take if a baby starts choking; five back blows followed by up to five chest thrusts.

St. John Chief Executive, Sue Killen said of the campaign: “knowing what to do in an emergency can be the difference between life and death, especially with something like choking.”

The advert will air on television over the forthcoming three months and the charity is asking for online shares and retweets on social media to widen its appeal and save lives. In addition to the video there will be advice on St John Ambulance website –

Jigsaw Paediatric First Aid Courses

Choking unfortunately isn’t the only dangers facing children, therefore here at #TeamJigsaw we offer a specialised first aid course centred around managing minor or emergency situations when looking after infants through to teenagers.

The  2-Day Paediatric first aid course meets the criteria defined for first aid training in the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework (EYFS) and Ofsted first aid requirements for registered childminders. It can also be used as evidence for employees working towards an NVQ in Childcare and Education.

– 20th and 23rd February 2015
