If you think about all the people around you; friends, family members, work colleagues… How many of those people do you know that have suffered some form of mental illness?

Did you know? Around 1 in 4 people will experience some kind of mental illness at some point each year, in the UK. This can be anything from generalised anxiety disorder, and depression, to OCD, PTSD, Bipolar Disorder, and many more. A lot of these people will also go through these experiences on their own, without any help or support.

Mental health is becoming a much bigger issue in the UK, and is becoming more vast amongst young people; with around 10% of school children, aged between 5 and 16, being diagnosed with a mental illness.

According to figures from the Office of National Statistics, this shows that the suicide rate in young people has been higher than it has been for the past 10 years, and is the leading cause of death in men and women, aged between 20-34 in the UK.

If you think you may be experiencing some form of mental illness, you do not have to suffer in silence! It may only start off small, and you may feel embarrassed to go and speak to someone, but there are so many others in the same situation, and there are so many ways to receive help, support, and treatment.

We have seen some studies that show that the average time to receive treatment is 10 years, which in some cases, this can be too late.

This is why Jigsaw Medical are a big supporter of Mind – A charity providing help, information, and support with the aim to provide people with better mental health. It takes one small step in the right direction today; speaking to people who understand, and who can help you to significantly improve your mental health.
