    Those wishing to achieve the FutureQuals Level 3 Certificate in Emergency Ambulance Driving (QCF).

    This qualification can be taken by anyone over the age of 21 who holds a full, UK driving licence.

  • Objectives:

    The purpose of this Level 3 Certificate in Emergency Ambulance Driving (QCF) is to provide the learner with the skills, knowledge and understanding required to prepare, drive and manoeuvre an ambulance vehicle with safety, comfort and patient needs in mind whilst complying with legal requirements.

Course Summary

This qualification supports and prepares the learner to be able to drive an emergency ambulance vehicle in routine and emergency scenarios safely and in compliance with the law and legislation, whilst claiming legal exemptions where appropriate, and will also confirm your competence in the skills and knowledge you will need to be able to work effectively as an Emergency Response Ambulance Driver.

Furthermore, the FAQ Level 3 Certificate in Emergency Response Ambulance Driving (QCF) will support your continual professional development and give you the opportunity to progress to subjects in the same area but at a higher level or requiring more specific knowledge, skills and understanding.

These courses are of 20-days duration for Emergency Ambulances and all training is conducted on Jigsaw Medical fleet vehicles.

Level 3 Certificate in Emergency Ambulance Driving (QCF) course includes the following sections:

  • Pre-shift vehicle daily inspection and pre-driving checks
  • Comply with current legislation and driving regulations at all times
  • Use of vehicles’ braking systems
  • Use of vehicles’ steering systems
  • Use of vehicles’ transmission system during routine driving
  • Varying the speed of the vehicle
  • Procedures for multi-lane carriageways and motorway driving
  • Reversing and manoeuvring an ambulance vehicle safely
  • Use and effects of vehicle safety systems
  • How to overtake other vehicles during routine driving
  • The effects of adverse conditions on driving
  • Managing confrontational behaviour whilst driving
  • Navigation during routine driving
  • Use of the system of car control
  • Use of vehicles’ transmission systems during emergency driving
  • Overtaking other vehicles during an emergency drive
  • Driving an ambulance vehicle during hours of darkness in emergency and non-emergency situations
  • Driving in emergency response situations
  • Driving using exemptions for emergency ambulance response driving
  • Managing confrontational behaviour when responding to emergencies
  • Navigating when responding to emergencies
