Since the changes in first aid regulations by the HSE, it is now more important than ever to select the right first aid training provider for your business. There seems to be a lot of companies providing first aid courses, from the likes of Jigsaw Medical Services – who operate two offices and operate throughout the UK, to the local man-and-a-van service…
But whats important when picking who is going to do your companies training?
There are a number of things that businesses need to look for when selecting their training provider, we have put together a handy list for you to look out for:
- What’s the address? – Do they have an office, do they actually exist. Not having an office or training centre is not a crime, however what happens if something goes wrong? Where do you go? Training companies come and go – you do not want to be the one who gets stung with invalid certificates or out of pocket.
- Who regulates them? – Since the HSE stopped directly approving training organisations, it is vital to make sure the company is still delivering their courses within the HSE guidelines (as they still exist!). Make sure you ask about their approvals.
- Who is the instructor? – Many training providers like to send people who we call ‘textbook hero’s’. Would you like to be taught how to fix your heating by a gardener? Exactly, so why should they teach you first aid? – Make sure they are qualified as a trainer, but also as a clinician.
- How much? – The old saying of ‘You get what you pay for’ springs to mind here. If it sounds to good to be true, then it probably is. There is of course a balance between reasonable pricing and professional tuition. We think we have that balance here at Jigsaw!
